We had been warned of yet another storm of the century so we drove to the Stop & Shop to get End of The World As We Know It supplies, filled the truck’s gas tank and came home to charge all of our Milwaukee M18™ and M12™ batteries. It’s not that we needed to sit in the dark with cordless drills and Sawzalls, but we did want to be ready to keep the heated workwear going, provide some light and to charge our iPhones and iPad during any potential power outage. We are glad we did!

Charged Batteries

Charged and ready

The storm didn’t live up to its billing everywhere, but here on Nantucket the flooding, sustained high winds and 78 mph gusts were enough to knock the power out of the entire island. It wasn’t long before the only water we had was what we put up in advance, and the house got colder and colder. We figured to stay connected with the outside world with our cell phones knowing that we could charge them countless times with the M18™ and M12™ Power Source adapters.

Let’s Publish!

It seemed like a good opportunity to publish a review of Milwaukee’s new cordless M12™ Compact Vacuum and we were all set to go, but we didn’t count on the failure of our cellular service! Most of our storm time was spent incommunicado after all. We were guaranteed virtually unlimited Whirleywords and Solitaire for the duration but couldn’t get any weather updates or emails or publish any blog posts until the cells came back on line.

Charging the iPhone

Finally, cell service, warmth and coffee at the Handlebar Café!

All through the blackout period, the tool batteries kept us lighted, entertained and finally, informed. The adapters were a considerable asset during the 48 hours when the temperature inside the house dropped to 43°. Through all of it, I don’t think we used much more than half of a single battery charge.

We’ve suggested that Milwaukee develop an M18™ Fuel Cordless Coffee Maker for times like these. The said they’d work on it…
